My name is Dr. Chad Updike and I’m really excited to announce that in about 6 weeks I’m going to be back in the area and teaming up with Dr. Katie to bring top level Chiropractic care to the entire coulee region.

In the weeks leading up to expanding the office, I’m going to be doing some videos and covering some common questions I get about Chiropractic. Some of them I get when I’m in the office, some of them I get when I’m out in the community. But the first question I wanted to start with is the most commonly googled question about Chiropractic. Are Chiropractic Adjustments safe?

My answer is obviously always yes. We take care of full families, a ton of kids, and it’s the very best thing you can do to ensure the health of your family. But when it comes down to evaluating risk, the gold standard is statistics. The ones who rely on this the most are insurance companies. The premiums that people pay for insurance is determined by the level of risk that you pose to that company. In short, the likelihood you have to hurt someone or create a lawsuit. The people making these evaluations are not using emotion, but rather facts and statistics to evaluate risk.

So let’s start by looking at the average cost per year for malpractice for your typical family doctor. The average family doctor pays about $6000 per year for malpractice insurance. If you look at what an Orthopedic Surgeon pays, they are up around the $30,000 range. Do you want to take a guess as to what a typical Chiropractor pays per year for malpractice insurance? Last year I paid a little less than $1,200.

If we compare that to another area, I actually pay more per year for insurance on my truck than I do for malpractice insurance. So your chiropractor is more dangerous to you out driving on the road than we are inside the office!
